Rowley Drysdale

Rowley Drysdale (1957- ) was born in Charleville, QLD. He began making pots in the 1980s while working as a journalist. In 1993, he completed a Graduate Diploma of Arts and, in 2001, a Master of Arts, both through Monash University. The first kiln he built was wood-fired but he fires much of his work in a gas kiln using metallic saturation, copper and shino glazes. He teaches part-time at TAFE in Tewantin and lives and works at Quixotica, a property near Cooroy on the Sunshine Coast with studios for visiting artists, a showroom, and a number of kilns including a large anagama which he fires three to four times a year. He specialises in vessel forms which he sees as both functional and contemplative, and also makes mixed media wall hangings. His work is signed Drysdale (painted or incised) or impressed with a 'dr' monogram.
