Large oval stoneware vase with collared rim and Broken Hill feldspar glaze inside and out, with the potter's hand prints.

Impressed 'LB' on the side at the base with the Sturt Pottery seal, and dating from c.1964.

26cm high and 24.5cm in diameter

In good condition.

Provenance: Stanley & Co, Sydney, 20th Century Design, Decorative Arts & Furniture, 20 March 2005, lot 123.

A handwritten note that came with the vase says "Les Blakebrough. Broken Hill feldspar glaze with potter's hand prints. This piece was made soon after Blakebrough's return from Japan [in December 1963]. Feldspar is the mineral used in the traditional Japanese SHINO glaze."
