David Oswald was born in Cairns, Northern Queensland and was active as a potter in Brisbane in the 1990s. He and Ted Secombe formed a company to market their works to corporations, hotel chains and resorts. This venture is described in Pottery in Australia, 36/1, 1997, pp. 13- 15. For this market, he made large-scale vessels and lidded jars with classical forms, lustrous richly-coloured glazes and gilded or applied decoration. These works are impressed 'OZ' and also have an impressed four-figure number and a certificate of authentication. Oswald has now retired from ceramics to focus on a range of other ventures.
