Nicholas Lidstone

Nicholas Lidstone (1935- ) trained for three years at the London Art School, then set up Shadwell Pottery in Sussex before travelling to Australia overland on a motor scooter. He spent one year at the National Art School in Sydney, and two years at Sturt Pottery as Les Blakebrough's first assistant, helping to build a new three-chamber climbing kiln there in 1964 under the supervision of visiting potter Takeichi Kawai. In 1969, he established the Berrima Pottery in NSW's Southern Highlands. The young Steve Harrison was an early visitor. Lidstone has an entry in the 1973 directory but no marks are recorded in that directory. From found examples, work may be marked with an impressed 'NL', an impressed 'BP' for Berrima Pottery and the impressed year in the form 'YY' all arranged in a row.
