Ted Secombe (1957-) trained and worked as a biochemist in Queensland before taking up pottery after meeting Phillip and Carl McConnell. He had set up a workshop in Toowoomba by 1979, first making tableware which he sold in markets and shops, then moving to large- scale gallery pieces with crystalline glazes. In 1989, after a period on the Gold Coast he moved to Yarra Glen, Victoria, where he still lives and works. He has lectured in ceramics in Queensland and Victoria, and has also worked on a number of major commissions for hotels, apartments and hospitals in Australia and overseas. He marks his work with an incised 'ES'.
