David Scott was born in Melbourne but spent most of his early life near Hobart in Tasmania. He studied ceramics at TAFE in Hobart and launched Scott's Pottery in 1995 at Dodges Ferry in south-eastern Tasmania. He worked in glazed terracotta, making platters, crocks, bowls, mugs, etc and selling through galleries in Salamanca Place. In 2010, he moved to the UK and then to a small village in the Limousin, France, where he met his wife Jan Duffy. In 2012, the couple moved to Canada and set up a pottery there.
