Henry Hackenberger

Henry and Jennifer Hackenberger set up the Myer's Creek Pottery in Healesville, Victoria in around 1987. Henry had been teaching metalwork at a technical school in the Latrobe Valley when he was asked to take over the pottery classes. He taught himself to make pottery and enjoyed it so much he became a potter in his own right. Jennifer obtained a Bachelor of Education (Arts and Crafts) at Melbourne State College (part of Melbourne University) majoring in sculpture. They made functional ware decorated in a painterly fashion with landscapes as well as a range of animal figures including rhinos, elephants, zebras and giraffes. The Myer's Creek Pottery business name was cancelled in 2011 but the Hackenbergers were still listed in the Healesville Museum and gallery Guide in 2013. Henry's mark is an incised or painted 'H' and he also has an impressed 'HH' mark. Jennifer's mark is a painted or incised 'JH'.
