John Robertson

John Robertson (1953- ) completed an Art and Design Certificate at Box Hill Technical College in 1973 and a Diploma in Ceramic Design at Caulfield Institute of Technology in 1975, then worked as a studio potter in Melbourne from 1976-1978 before moving to Hawkesburn Pottery in 1979 then Gerogery Pottery in 1982. Gerogery is a small town just north of Albury in NSW. Having crossed the border, he headed further north, completing a Ceramics Certificate at East Sydney Technical College in 1986 and teaching at St George and Randwick Technical Colleges in the second half of the 1980s. In the 1990 directory he is based at the Quirk Street Studios in Rozelle. Later he moved to Blackheath in the Blue Mountains, building a house there which is still known as the Potter's Cottage. I understand that he has since moved to Bellingen. Work may be marked with a painted or incised 'JR" or 'John Robertson'.
