Antien Furstner

Antien Furstner (1939- ) was born in Zutphen in the Netherlands where she studied art at the Academy of Arts in Arnhem and gold and silver jewellery techniques at the Institute for Gold and Silver Smiths in Schoonhoven. She migrated to Australia with her geologist husband and two-year old daughter in 1965 and has lived in Newcastle, Kalgoorlie, Canberra, Papua New Guinea (twice) and Adelaide. Since 1991, she has been based on Kangaroo Island, SA. She first studied pottery at Newcastle Technical College. In Kalgoorlie in 1968, she was asked to set up a new Ceramics Department at the Technical College. In Adelaide in the 1980s, she joined the Adelaide Potters' group and obtained a degree in ceramics from the South Australian College of Advanced Education. In 1988, she spent several months with the Coober Pedy Underground Pottery as a production potter and returned several times in later years. Her mark is an incised 'Antien'.
