Greg Liney

Greg Liney (1959- ) was born in Orange, NSW. He first became interested in pottery while attending the Scots School in Bathurst. In 1981, after completing several years of formal study at the Bendigo College of Advanced Education, he started potting with Greg McCormick in Ravenswood, south of Bendigo. Work from this period is signed with an incised "Greg Liney'. In 1983, he moved to Mia Mia, VIC, with his wife Robyn, who had also studied ceramics at the Bendigo College of Advanced Education, and they set up the Creation Pottery there. Creation Pottery work, which is 100% woodfired, is marked with an impressed 'Creation Pottery Mia Mia Woodfired' and may also be incised either 'Greg Liney' or 'Robyn Liney'. The pottery was forced to close in 1996 after Greg suffered a back injury. Since then, he has worked in viticulture and as a coffee roaster. Robyn upgraded her qualifications to a degree in 1996, then completed a Diploma of Teaching at the University of Melbourne. She is now Head of the Art Department at Oxley College, Melbourne. This information was first published as a topic on Identifying Australian Pottery.
