Keiko Matsui

Keiko Matsui (1970- ) was born in Osaka, Japan, where she graduated with a degree in tourism. She first visited Sydney in 1994 on a working holiday and returned there to live and work in 1999 after further travels overseas. She had studied ceramics at night classes in Osaka and, deciding to pursue this as a career, completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours at the National Art School in Sydney in 2006. She has been participating in group exhibitions since 2003 and has received a number of awards for her work. She held her first solo exhibition at Sturt Gallery, Mittagong, from 14 October to 18 December, 2012. Based first in Bondi Junction, then Chippendale, she currently lives and works at Umina Beach on the Central Coast of NSW. She makes simple porcelain forms decorated in drawings or calligraphy and also teaches these techniques at occasional workshops. Her mark is a painted 'Matsui'.
