Rudolf Sibrava

Rudolf Sibrava (1949- ) was born in Czechoslovakia. He came to Australia in 1968, working in a psychiatric hospital in Melbourne for ten years before moving to Tasmania and taking up a small holding in the Fingal Valley. In 1986 he enroled in a two year Associate Diploma in ceramics at the Tasmanian State Institute of Technology, Launceston. In 1988, with four other TSIT students, he formed the Ceramic 5 Studio. In 1989, he and Lisa Boyter broke away to set up their own business, producing a range of terracotta pieces with handpainted floral designs under the name Artisan Studio Ceramics. They moved the studio from Launceston to a former apple packing shed in Robigana in the early 1990s, establishing the Artisan Gallery there as an adjunct to their practice. Since 2001, both have primarily practiced under their own names. Sibrava's works are signed with an impressed 'RB'.
