Gwen Whitie

Gwen Whitie (1929-2013) has entries in the 1973, 1977, 1982 and 1988 directories. She trained at the Workshop Arts Centre, Willoughby, at the East Sydney technical College, and at the Potters' Society School. Her first workshop was at Wahroonga, NSW. In 1981, she was one of a group of potters who established the Down the Lane Potter's Workshop in Newtown. By 1988, she had moved to Dulwich Hill, and in the 2000s she was based at Gladesville. She is best known for her simplified earthenware slipcast bird forms and terracotta floor pots and wall plaques decorated with burnished engobe. Her work is marked with a painted 'GW'.
