Patsy Hely

Patsy Hely (1947- ) trained at the East Sydney Technical College (now the National Art School) from 1976-77, completing a post-graduate year in 1979, and setting up a studio in the Glebe Estate Workshop. She was senior lecturer in the ceramics studio in the School of Contemporary Arts, Southern Cross University, Lismore, NSW, where she completed a Master of Arts (Fine Arts) in 1995. In 2002, she enrolled in a PhD course at the Canberra School of Art, and later worked as Honours and Graduate Convenor there. Her thesis 'Ceramic Objects and Articulation of Place' was completed in 2007. Beginning with brightly-coloured wheel thrown and handbuilt domestic ware and slip-decorated earthenware platters and tiles in the 1980s, she now slipcasts porcelain, making delicately hand-painted limited-edition and one-off pieces. Her work is signed 'Hely' or 'Patsy Hely'.
