Cope, Andrew

Andrew Cope completed a post-graduate degree at Monash University's Caulfield Campus in 1992, then spent ten years as resident potter at Clayworks Australia in Dandenong, Victoria, before setting up his own workshop at Byawatha in Rural Victoria in 2003. He received the Victorian Ceramics Group's H.R. Hughan award in 1997. He makes stoneware vessels and forms, slab-built or wheel-thrown and manipulated, with combed decorative surfaces and synthetic ash glazes. He has an entry in the 1996 potter's directory and there are several articles about him in Pottery in Australia / The Journal of Australian Ceramics. His works are marked with an incised 'Andrew Cope'.
