Amanda Kelso trained as a landscape architect and worked for two years in London before deciding to take her interest in pottery as a hobby at school and university to a professional level. In 1991, she studied ceramics at Randwick TAFE, then obtained a Diploma of Ceramics from East SydneyTechnical College in 1994. She specialises in functional ware with surfaces decorated using industrial design techniques. In the final year of her diploma, she worked in a Zetland-based factory, later renting a studio from the factory, and later still buying the factory, and selling via shops, markets, party plans and commissions. In 1998 she cut back the business, outsourced the greenware and focused on design. Her works are marked with a painted 'Amanda Kelso'.
