Richard Murray

Richard Murray trained as a sculptor at East Sydney Technical College from 1964-66, and as a teacher at Alexander Mackie Teachers' College from 1967-68, then worked as a secondary school art teacher until 1979, when he retired to become a full-time potter. Mainly self-taught, he set up his studio at 'Deloraine' in Braidwood, producing a range of domestic ware in stoneware and porcelain. He still lives and works in Braidwood, now based at the Pig and Whistle Gallery at the north entrance to the town, on the site of the former Railway Hotel. His works are signed with a painted 'RM' and/or an impressed 'RM' monogram with the M in the lower half of the R. He has entries in the 1981 and 1985 potters' directories.
