Greg Irvine

Greg Irvine (1946- ) was born in Melbourne where he graduated from the National Gallery Art School in 1965. He is best known as a painter and printmaker but also made and exhibited ceramics and figurative ceramic sculptures until the early 1980s. In 1972, he designed the sets and costumes for the Australian Ballet production of “The Firebird” and a number of his ceramic sculptures feature ballet dancers. In 2012, he returned to decorating ceramic bowls, jugs and platters in an exhibition at Hawthorn Studio & Gallery. Ceramic work may be marked with a painted 'Irvine' and there is also a 'GI' in a square illustrated on his website.
